Hines A+D receives a Honor Award at the National Organization of Minority Architects gala in Chicago. The honor award, in the design vision category, recognizes this conceptual plan which re-envisions Freedmen’s Town 4th Ward Houston Texas. This post-Emancipation community is considered one of the earliest southern communities representing the urbanization of freed Africans during the Reconstruction Era.
This community which is adjacent to downtown Houston, has experienced considerable urbanization and change. Civic and community leaders endeavor to gain UNESCO World Heritage recognition of this cultural district.
The purpose of this effort is to amplify and celebrate the historic community’s significance in the creation and proliferation of African-American culture, wealth, art and music attributed to formally enslaved Africans. Fall 2018
