HINESAD / EKLA team participated in an immersive experience for the selection of the Design Architect. The unique experience included group and individual engagement with stakeholders and community members, an emotional visit to the project site, a former KKK meeting hall, and a pecan shell company.
As part of the design process, teams were provided studio space at UT Arlington to develop a design approach based on the overall immersive experience. This experience encompassed visits to sites of trauma and hate, places of memory and reverence, and enthusiastic community engagement activities. The Design Residency culminated with community design presentations, including dialogue, interactive design activities, and emotional discussions about the site’s complex history of hate, indifference, and race.
